竹帙(じす)jisu
Jisu
One type of sutra wrapper (kyōchitsu). Used to roll around sutra scrolls to protect them when stored, these wrappers are made from thin slats of bamboo twined together with decorative colored threads. While many are edged with beautiful cloths, often nishiki, and have a triangular cloth “head” (jitsutai) with wrapping cord attached, others are plain bamboo with no edging or cord.
