Zushi

Cabinet or portable shrine. Zushi refers to standing containers with vertically hinged doors that usually open to the left and right. Zushi may have inner shelves and be used as storage units, like the Lacquered Red Zelkova Cabinet that stores items related to Emperor Shōmu. They can also be simple box-shapes intended to house a statue or other Buddhist relic, in which case they are often referred to as portable shrines.
