A method of hammering metals from the reverse side. A silver, gold, or bronze sheet is hammered either into a three-dimensional shape, or into a bumpy surface with a low relief design. Sometimes repoussé is combined with hammering from the obverse side (chasing) and may be further detailed with incised lines.
