This weaving method of creating free patterning is similar in effect to tapestry, but structurally different. Technically it could be described as plain weave with supplementary patterning wefts, where the multi-colored pattern wefts fill the whole surface working back and forth in solid blocks and often interlocking in ways that resemble tapestry weave.
