Seyakuin
A clinic within the Imperial Palace where illnesses were treated and medicine dispensed. Built at the request of Empress Kōmyō (wife of Emperor Shōmu, mother of Empress Regnant Kōken) in 730 (Tenpyō 2), the Seyakuin was put in the office of the Empress Kōmyō’s palace. Medicine was purchased with rations from the office or obtained with the approval seal of Fujiwara no Fuhito (659–720). The Shōsō-in’s medicines were used from time to time.
