コクタン（黒檀）(こくたん)kokutan
カキノキ科の常緑喬木。インド南部およびセイロン原産。高さは約六メートル。幹は直立し、樹皮は黒色をおびる。材は緻密で工芸素材として珍重された。

Black Sandalwood
Ebony, the hardwood from various trees in the diospyros genus. These include persimmon native to India, Ceylon, and Africa, that has leaves all year round and grows to some six meters tall with a straight trunk and black bark. The fineness of the grain makes this a highly valued wood for furnishings and marquetry.
