褥(じょく)joku
敷物のこと。献物をする際に献物の下に敷かれた几褥(きじょく)や僧侶(そうりょ)の坐具(ざぐ)として用いられたものなどが正倉院宝物として伝わっている。

Joku
Mat. The term covers small table mats to large cushions. Offertory tables often had lined mats made to the shape and dimensions of their tabletop. The lightly padded mat would buffer the impact of the objects placed on the table and protect the table from spills, chips, and other damage.
