Danshi
In ancient times, the term “danshi” referred to paper made from mayumi (Himalayan Spindle Tree, Euonymus hamiltonianus Wall), but in the mid-Heian period paper mulberry (kōzo) started to be used as the fiber. Since the Edo period, danshi has referred to white thick crepe paper made from paper mulberry. Used for wrapping and such purposes, it was often dyed to make colored crepe.
