A type of Japanese zither used already in prehistoric times and played for Shinto dances (kagura). Nara period wagon have 6 strings and come in various sizes. Of the 8 wagon in the Shōsō-in, only one is decorated. Other types of zithers, sō, kin, shitsu, were imported from China and have from 7 to 13 strings.
