鉾(ほこ)hoko

Hoko

A Japanese spear, hoko differs from yari (halberd) in the method of handle attachment. A spearhead has a hollow socket that is mounted over its handle’s tapered end, while the head of a halberd has a tapered tang that inserts into a vertical hole in the pole. Some of the hoko in the Repository have angular bends in their blades and are known as teboko.
