透彫(すかしぼり)sukashibori
金属、木材、皮革、陶磁器などの素材を表から裏まで刳(く)り抜く技法。文様(もんよう)を残して素地を彫り透かす地透かしと、文様を彫り抜いて地を残す文様透かしとに大別される。

Sukashibori
Openwork, a technique used in metalwork, woodwork, leather, and ceramics, to create decorative holes in the walls of the object by cutting out shapes. Some have the pattern carved out, leaving the surrounding ground as solid. Others leave the pattern solid and hollow away the surrounding areas.
