Shōkyaku

Frame legs. These form the base for tables, offertory stands, or elevated furniture, such as boxes and cabinets. Shōkyaku legs generally sit on a wooden frame (tatamizuri, jizuri) and raise the tabletop, box, or main part of the furniture off the ground. Furniture designs with shōkyaku bases often make decorative use of shaped carved-out empty spaces (kurigata). This decorative use of kurigata is known as kōzama.
