Karahana mon
A stylized top-view of a flower forming medallion. Generally, the floral motif is a composite of concentric rings of top-view and side-view flowers. A full karahana design includes rows of round floral motifs combined with rows of diamond-shaped floral motifs. Originating in India or Persia, this motif was used in Tang China as a textile design and thus when it came to Japan was known as a “Tang flower.”
